ADVISORY / VaST Systems Technology's Virtual System Prototypes for Embedded Designs at Intel Developer Forum

SUNNYVALE, California, March 1, 2006 — VaST Systems Technology Corporation—powering embedded design innovation—will be presenting its family of tools and models for the creation of virtual system prototypes (VSPs) at the Intel Developer Forum, Moscone Center West, San Francisco from 7-9 March 2006.

VaST virtual system prototypes (VSPs) are high-performance software simulation-based, cycle-, register-, and timing-accurate models of an SoC used for the development and evaluation of system architecture as well as for concurrent hardware /software development. A VSP can include one or more virtual processors, buses, hardware peripheral components, and even models of mechanical subsystems that are part of the overall system. The VSP runs the same complied and linked target code as the real or prototype hardware, accurately predicting the system's real-world behavior. In addition, the VaST VSP is cycle-accurate, so that the model accurately portrays real-time, critical-control system behavior.

VaST VSPs run nearly as fast as the hardware implementations of the system but are available much earlier in the development process and enable developers to efficiently control and observe the model. VaST VSPs boot real-time operating systems in a matter of seconds and typically execute software at speeds of 20-200 MIPS, cycle accurately. VaST VSP's can run unmodified binary executables from boot sequences to operating systems to embedded applications.

The heart of the VaST VSP is the VaST virtual processor model (VPM). VaST's virtual processor model library contains many leading processors including: ARM 7 family; ARM 9 family; the ARM 1136, 1156 and 1176; the StarCore 1200, 1400 and 2400; and more then a dozen other processor types currently available or in development.

The advantages of using VSPs from VaST include a reduction in the total engineering time and resources required to develop a product ready for production. VaST users report cutting up to nine months from their development schedules when compared to using historical methods and tools. Please visit VaST at Booth 446 at the Intel Developer Forum.
